#1 – Apple cider vinegar: It has several organic acids that are great at fighting many types of bacteria and viruses, including acne the causal microorganism for acne. Succinic acid present in the vinegar also suppresses the inflammation and lactic acid improves the appearance of the face by clearing the scars.
It can even help reduce excess oil from the skin, as oily skins are prone to acne than any other skin type. Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar with three parts water and apply gently to the skin using a cotton ball. Let it sit for 5-20 seconds, rinse with warm water and dry with a soft face towel. Repeat twice daily.
#2 – Green tea: Green tea contains high levels of antioxidants, flavonoids and tannins that help in fighting bacteria, reduce oil production, inhibit the growth of acne and reducing inflammation.
Steep green tea in boiling water for 3-4 minutes, allow to cool then use a cotton ball to apply the water to your face or you mix the water to honey and apply as a face mask.
Let it dry then wash it with water and dry it with a clean face cloth. Also drinking green tea regularly lowers blood sugar and insulin which are risk factors that can contribute to the acne development.
#3 – Witch hazel: Due to the powerful anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of this herb combined with its high level of tannins; it is used to treat a broad range of skin conditions and acne is one of them.
Applying to your skin will fight acne, reduce inflammation and heal it faster. Put 1 table spoon of witch hazel in a cup of water, apply to face and leave it to dry then wash it and dry your face with a clean towel.
#4 – Aloe Vera: This powerful plant is used in treating various skin infections and problems; it fights inflammation and heals acne wounds.
It has salicylic acids and sulfur compounds that are widely used in treating acne. Apply the gel directly to your face and let it dry then wash it off. You can repeat it several times a day.
#5 – Baking soda: Baking soda acts as a gentle exfoilant for your skin. It has anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties and regulates the pH balance. It also unplugs pores and removes dead skin cells.
Mix one or two tea spoons of baking soda with water and apply the paste on your face; leave it for few minutes and wash it off. Towel your face dry. Repeat three times weekly.
#6 – Oatmeal: It cleans skin pores and absorbs excess oil, mix a cup of oatmeal with one tea spoon of honey and half cup of lemon juice. Rub this mixture on your face and leave for 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Repeat twice a week.
#7 – Orange peel: It has high vitamin C content and acidic property; you can use the juice as well but the peel is more effective. Dry the orange peel, grind it into powder, mix it with water and apply the paste to your face. Leave it for 10-15 minutes and wash with warm water.
#8 – Fenugreek: It is great at fighting acne due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-septic and anti-oxidant properties. Mix the fresh leaves with water to make a smooth paste.
Apply it on the face for 10-15 minutes, then wash your face. Do it daily till the acne clears. Or if it’s the powder you have, mix one tea spoon of it with little water and apply the paste to your face and let it sit for 20 minutes or overnight.
Wash it afterwards. Repeat twice or thrice weekly.
#9 – Honey and cinnamon face mask: It’s an excellent source of anti-oxidants, and their powerful anti-bacterial properties fights acne and reduce inflammation.
Mix two table spoons of honey and one tea spoon of cinnamon to form a paste; apply to the face and leave for 10-15 minutes, then wash it off and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
#10 – Reduce on dairy and dairy products: Consuming milk and dairy products leads to high hormonal activity which is a risk factor for acne. If you can avoid them totally, it will be great.
#11 – Reduce stress: Hormones released when the body is stress increase oil production and skin inflammation. Stress can even slow the healing of acne lesions. Get more sleep, exercise regularly, meditate and be positive.
#12 – Exercise regularly: This increases blood circulation to the skin and helps to nourish skin cells; it can also prevent and heal acne. Exercise also decreases stress and releases endorphins that make the body relax and feel good.
#13 – Drink plenty of water: Water flush out toxins, makes the skin clear and glow, it hydrates the skin also. Drink eight glasses of water a day and more when you exercise or when the weather is hot.
#14 – Eats lots of fruits and vegetables: They contain phytochemicals, anti-oxidants and other useful nutrients that make your skin glow and heal all kinds of skin problems including acne.
Eat lots of water melons, oranges, bananas, cucumbers, avocados and berries. Dark green leafy vegetables should be included in your diet regularly or you can make smoothies with them for better results.
