How to Lose Weight Fast With Turmeric and Warm Lemon Water

You will agree with me that one of the most common health hazards of our time is excessive body fat and millions of people are affected by it all over the world, which is why many overweight people are trying to lose weight naturally.

Fat is accumulated in the body through the calories that we take in from foods we eat or drink. This happens when our calory intake is higher than what is used by the body for metabolic processes such as breathing, regulation of body temperature, digestion, etc.

The amount of energy that is left after the body makes use of what it needs to function is stored for future use. This ‘left over’ energy is stored in liver cells as glycogen and as triglycerides in the fat tissues.

The energy imbalances may also be caused by other factors such as hormonal disorders like, hypothyroidism, certain genetic disorders and medications can also cause weight gain.

When the weight gain is excessive, it is called obesity and leads to other complications such as metabolic syndrome, hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, stroke, etc.

Obesity is an increasingly social and medical problem all over the world and refers to having too much body fat.

Though there are numerous diet plans, different type of exercises and weight loss pills, herbs or supplements out there, today I will be talking about a home remedy – Turmeric Tea.

What is Turmeric?

Turmeric, popularly called a ‘miracle herb’, is an ancient spice used by Indians to spice up their foods and also for medicinal purposes. Recent studies are starting to prove the claims that is making it popular in western culture as well.

Turmeric, scientifically known as Curcuma longa, is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae and can be added to a variety of foods for flavor as well as for the medicinal benefits. It is what gives curry it yellow colour and it’s often referred to as the “Queen of Spices” due to the many anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties it contains. It’s also full of nutrients such as fiber, protein, potassium, calcium, iron Vitamins C, E and K and a host of others.

Turmeric has numerous bioactive compounds that endow several medicinal benefits to this spice. The most active and versatile of these compounds is the curcuminoids, especially curcumin.

The other compounds that are present in turmeric are volatile oils, vitamins (B & C), potassium, sodium, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, α-linolenic acid, proteins, carbohydrate, fibres, etc.

These compounds provide turmeric with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-microbial, analgesic, thermogenic properties and many more.

Truly, there are several health benefits of turmeric, but we will be focusing on turmeric benefits toward aiding weight loss.

8 Awesome Benefits of Turmeric in Weight Loss

Turmeric is not only effective in promoting weight loss, but can also help in combating the complications related to obesity.

#1: Turmeric prevents fat accumulation and hastens fat loss

Excessive weight or obesity is characterized by the accumulation of fat in the adipose tissues or other tissues such as those of stomach or liver cells.

Turmeric is very effective in reducing this fat accumulation in white adipose tissues, thereby leading to decreased in fat accumulation.

Moreover, it has been observed that turmeric along with sulphur can prevent fat deposition and improve the lipid profile of blood and liver in over-weight individuals.

#2: Turmeric has thermogenic action

Thermogenesis is a metabolic process that involves burning of calories in the body for energy expenditure. This process promotes the weight loss as it leads to decreased in calories in the body.

#3: Turmeric suppresses inflammation associated with obesity

Inflammation is greatly associated with obesity or excessive fat deposition in the body. This inflammatory response further leads to other diseases like metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disorders, diabetes etc.

Turmeric being an anti-inflammatory substance can be very effective in targeting the inflammatory action of adipokines.

#4: Turmeric has anti-diabetic action

The risk of diabetes is one of the most common among overweight or obese individuals. Therefore, prevention of this disease becomes very important.

Turmeric comes in handy here as well. It is known for its efficacy in the treatment and prevention of diabetes.

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions of the curcuminoids, especially curcumin have great anti-diabetic effect. These substances lower the blood sugar levels.

#5: Turmeric prevents metabolic syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is another prevalent risk factor associated with obesity. Fat accumulation around abdomen causes metabolic changes that cause metabolic syndrome, i.e. the risk factors that lead to coronary heart problems.

Turmeric ability to reduce weight can lower the risk of metabolic syndrome.

#6: Turmeric reduces depression

Depression is another complication associated with obesity and overweight that has a detrimental effect on the patients. Many studies have confirmed the relationship of obesity and depression both ways, i.e. obesity can lead to depression and vice-versa.

Turmeric is known for its antidepressant-like activity. Curcumin increases serotonin and dopamine levels that lead to reduction of depression.

#7: Lowers Cholesterol

This miracle spice is also effective in lowering cholesterol, which helps prevent health issues such as cardiovascular disease.

#8: Turmeric helps to lower blood pressure

Obesity or overweight is most times associated with high blood pressure. Research shows that curcumin and its derivatives have vasorelaxant property or ability to relax blood vessels which reduces resistance to blood flow and hence reduces hypertension.

How to Prepare and Use Turmeric for Weight Loss

A glass of hot water with lemon first thing in the morning helps activate thermogenesis, which makes our body begin to burn fat. This explains why we will be adding lemon to our turmeric tea.

Follow the below steps on how to make turmeric tea with lemon or watch the video below;

1. Add 1 teaspoon full of turmeric powder into a clean glass cup.

2. Cut a whole lemon into 2 equal part and squeeze a half lemon into it. (Make sure lemon is freshly squeezed whenever you need it. To preserve the other half lemon, put in a small plastic container and put inside the fridge).

3. Pour boiled water into the mixture in the glass cup.

4. You can add half or 1 teaspoon of original raw honey to it if you want.

Precautions and Side Effects of Consuming Turmeric

Turmeric is a natural herb and it’s considered safe but just like anything else, too much of everything is bad.

Acid reflux may be caused by consumption of turmeric in an empty stomach. So use with care.

Curcumin in turmeric interferes in drug metabolism activity. Avoid taking it at the same time as taking any medication. Maintain a 2-3 hours gap.

Bleeding disorder patients should not consume turmeric.

Limit turmeric consumption in case of risk of gout and kidney stones. Turmeric in large quantities can raise the risk of developing kidney stones (in sensitive individuals).

Turmeric is a stimulant of bile flow. If one is suffering from gallstone, this may lead to bile duct obstruction, causing pain and other problems.

Discontinue taking raw turmeric or turmeric supplements if you are scheduled for a surgery. It is suitable to stop taking turmeric around 2 weeks prior to a surgery.

Being a blood thinner, turmeric can interfere with the process of blood clotting after a surgery.

Avoid taking turmeric if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

In general, always consult your doctor before changing your diet.

Turmeric’s potential in weight loss is immense. It has a diverse range of action that helps in weight reduction as well as prevention of fat accumulation. Turmeric won’t perform the magic in days or weeks, but a long time use will make you lose some weight. I’ll rather use turmeric tea for up to 90 days before concluding if it really works or not.

Turmeric prevents fat accumulation by its anti-inflammatory activity and its ability to turn white adipose tissue into brown. It also increases the rate of metabolism in the body.

Turmeric is also helpful in combating and preventing the complications that arise due to obesity.

Moreover, depression caused by obesity or obesity triggered by depression can be avoided by the use of turmeric.
